Painted River Project
Mehi Reflections
Exhibition Runs: 20 September - 19 October
The Painted River Project is an art, science and cultural initiative that creates space for diverse community members to share knowledge and build understanding of how we live with the natural world. The project aims to nurture transformative thinking and collective action around one of Australia's most contested topics - water.
The Painted River Project is evolving into an expanded weekend of site-specific "en plein air" art and science sessions to be held at local riverside locations highlighting Moree’s unique landscape, agricultural industry and water life.
Each year, the Painted River Project invites artists and experts in science, agriculture and Gamilaroi knowledge holders to lead discussions about the environment, water use and social identity connected to the river sites we explore.
Since 2021, the Painted River Project program has featured well-known Australian landscape artists, including Elisabeth Cummings, Sophie Cape, Lucy Culliton, Euan Macleod and Joe Furlonger. Workshops, research presentations and field tours by agricultural experts and scientists are also featured in the annual program.
The 2023 Painted River Project was made possible by the Australian Government’s Regional Arts Fund, provided through Regional Arts Australia and Regional Arts NSW.
BAMM is pleased to work with our project partners, Western Sydney University and Monash Sustainable Development Institute.
