Generations in Pattern and Paint speaks to the enduring connections between culture and family – what is passed down, what is remembered and what continues to grow through creative expression. Elizabeth Munro, a proud Gomeroi woman, born in 1962 in Moree, was raised at Mehi Mission alongside her eleven siblings. That place, where connection to family, culture and community was formed, remains at the heart of her practice.

Beginning her art journey at Moree TAFE, what started as learning new skills became something much deeper. Through painting and the creation of handcrafted dolls, Munro tell stories grounded in culture, ceremony and lived experience.

Her painted patterns carry meaning, drawing on memory and identity. Each mark is thoughtful and intentional, connected to generations before her and generations to come. Her dolls, also marked with ceremonial patterns, represent living presence—they hold story, spirit and continuity in physical form. Through this work, Elizabeth Munro shares not only her story, but a broader story of resilience, strength and belonging.
